Web3D Conference 2010, SIGGRAPH 2010 and… Collaviz !

The 15th international conference on 3D Web technology, the Web3D Conference 2010, was held this year in Los Angeles, California from 23th to 24th July 2010. This event was co-located with the SIGGRAPH 2010 conference.
Collaviz was represented by our partners from EDF and LIRIS thanks to the accepted paper “Remote scientific visualization of progressive 3D meshes with X3D” in the technical paper session dedicated to Scientific Visualisation.
Special thanks to Adrien Maglo (MAS laboratory, Ecole Centrale Paris), Guillaume Lavoue (Universite de Lyon, CNRS, INSA de Lyon, LIRIS), Celine Hudelot (MAS laboratory, Ecole Centrale Paris), Ho Lee (Universite de Lyon, CNRS, Université Lyon 1, LIRIS), Christophe Mouton (EDF R&D, SINETICS), Florent Dupont (Universite de Lyon, CNRS, Universite Lyon 1, LIRIS).

A special workshop on “Web3D and Scientific Visualisation” has brought the state-of-the-art in scientific visualization using Web3D technologies across the processing chain from the numerical simulation results datasets to the end user’s visualizations, and Guillaume LAVOUE - CNRS/LIRIS has presented the latest collaviz work on streaming and 3D compression for large datasets. The presentations by the HLRS, Virginia Tech, Fraunhofer IGD or our international partners : Utkarsh AYACHIT - Kitware and Kristian SONS - DFKI/Supporting.com were highly appreciated by the audience

The Web3D Consortium has also invited Collaviz as a new member to present their work during the Web3D TechTalk at SIGGRAPH 2010 the 29th july. Guillaume LAVOUE, CNRS/LIRIS has explained the challenges and the first results acheived in the remote scientific visualisation domain to a large audience, more than 100 people attended this event.

All the presentations can be downloaded here.

A great news for the european and french community : The 2011 Web3D Conference will be held… in Paris, certainly in june 2011! We will keep you posted!

A few words about X3D:
X3D, the only XML-based 3D file format and run-time architecture for Web authors, remains the most widely used ISO open standard for implementation of high-integrity, high-capability 3D systems. With its rich set of componentized features, X3D is used in more and more 3D markets and hardware platforms. X3D has a large innovative community of content and applications developers, and it ensures interoperability and ownership of your 3D content. X3DOM, the WebGL ressource allow next-generation content in you most favorite internet browser thanks to HTML5.
